HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Citizens Bicycle Advisory Committee - Meeting Date: 12/1/2008 CITY OF GLENDALE CITIZEN BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE Monday, December 1, 2008 Transportation Planning Conference Room Bank of America Building,Suite 315 5800 West Glenn Drive,Glendale,Arizona 6:30 PM MINUTES CALL TO ORDER Bill Wilkinson called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m. Also in attendance: Fred Coury,Norman Crowell,Betsy Turner,Brad Meeks,Gail Hildebrant,and City staff—Steve Hancock Members absent: John Horvath,Joyce Dickerson,Richard Qualls,Saif Al-Alawi,and Mohamed Gaballa Guests: Bharat Jayswal(Premier Engineering) II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the November 3,2008 meeting were approved. III. CALL TO THE PUBLIC There were no members of the public wishing to address the Committee. IV. INTRODUCTIONS Members introduced themselves. V. CONTINUANCE OR WITHDRAWAL OF AGENDA ITEMS No agenda items required continuance or withdrawal. VI. REPORTS FROM OTHER COMMITTEES AND ORGANIZATIONS Betsy Turner said that the Citizen Transportation Oversight Commission(CTOC)last met in October. She recalled that there was a presentation on neighborhood mitigation issues,mostly regarding speeding vehicles in neighborhoods. Betsy noted that most of the people speeding in neighborhoods live there. She said that CTOC was also briefed on various measures used to try and slow traffic including various traffic calming devices. Betsy said that Sandy Adams told CTOC about current programs and projects in the Traffic Education arena. Gail Hildebrant reported that the Coalition of Arizona Bicyclists(CAzB)will postpone their planned conference in April because of the Bike-a-Palooza event in Tempe. Gail further noted that the CAzb had a presence at the El Tour de Tucson. She also said that CAzB has new jerseys for sale and they are a bright green color. VII. POLICE BICYCLE UNIT EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENT Steve Hancock said that Nikki Colletti of the Citizens'Police Academy Alumni of Glendale(CPAAG)planned to speak at this evening's meeting but could not attend because of illness. He said that she was seeking input on raising money to purchase new bicycles for the police bicycle officers working at special events in the Westgate-Sports Complex area. Betsy Turner said that she had been contacted by Ms Colletti and was told the bicycles would cost $1300 each. Betsy also said there had been discussions about the possibility of CPAAG setting up a table at the Glendale Family Bike Ride to solicit funds. TRANSPORTATION PLAN—ALTERNATE MODE ELEMENT There was no open discussion. IX. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS Steve Hancock said that planning for the 2009 Glendale Family Bike Ride would be placed on future agendas leading up to the April 19th ride. X. OTHER BUSINESS No other business was brought to the attention of the Committee. XI. NEXT MEETING Bill Wilkinson said the next regular meeting of the Glendale Citizen Bicycle Advisory Committee would be held on Monday,January 5, 2009, 6:30 p.m., Transportation Planning Conference Room, Bank of America Building, 5800 W.
