CALL TO ORDER Brian Kanitsch called the meeting to order at 6:36 p.m. Also in attendance: Betsy Turner, Gail Hildebrant,Michael Wood, Brad Meek, Rich Qualls, Saif Al-Alawi, and City staff—Steve Hancock Members absent: Jim Walker,Jeff Reid Guests: None II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Approval of the minutes of the January 8, 2007 was not approved due to lack of a quorum of members present. III. CALL TO THE PUBLIC No guests addressed the Committee. IV. INTRODUCTIONS Members introduced themselves. V. CONTINUANCE OR WITHDRAWAL OF AGENDA ITEMS No agenda items required continuance or withdrawal VI. REPORTS FROM OTHER COMMITTEES AND ORGANIZATIONS Saif Al-Alawi said that he and Gail Hildebrant had worked together on the Complete the Streets House Bill. Betsy Turner said that The Citizens Transportation Oversight Commission meeting on February 1St included a presentation on funding of GO projects and that revenues had been underestimated in past years and that a few bicycle projects needed to be delayed. Bill Wilkinson asked if the bike/ped bridge over Loop 101 was one of the projects being delayed. Betsy said that it was not and that the City was looking for Maricopa Association of Government(MAG)closeout funds for that project. Gail Hildebrant said that she would be attending the Governor's Safety Council meeting with Bill Lazenby of the Coalition of Arizona Bicyclists(CAB). She also said that Maricopa County was applying for a Safe Routes to School grant from the State. Gail announced that the CAB, in conjunction with the Perimeter Bicycling Association of America,would be hosting the 2007 Arizona Bicycle Conference on Friday, March 30`h. She said that someone would be doing a session on Arizona bicycle laws. Citizen Bicycle Advisory Committee Minutes February 5,2007 —Page 2— VII. GLENDALE FAMILY BIKE RIDE Steve Hancock updated the Committee on planning efforts for the 2007 Glendale Family Bike Ride. He passed around copies of the ride logo and artwork for the t-shirts. Steve said that this year the tents and tables as well as bouncing inflatables would be contracted for,noting the difficulties encountered in previous years in erecting and disassembling these items. For the benefit of new members Steve explained that Committee members were encouraged to volunteer as support staff for the ride. He said that last year 450 people registered for the ride and this year's goal was 500 riders. Steve passed out copies of the route maps for the ride noting that there were two rest areas along the 12-mile route that also required volunteers to man the snack and water tables. Steve said that the major problem last year was the first rest stop where some riders became confused on directions for the long and short routes. He said that this year there would be more signs at the rest stop to help resolve the problem. Bill Wilkinson asked if the bike mechanic at last years ride would be asked back this year. Steve replied that the mechanic would be at the ride this year. Steve asked if cold water was needed at Sahauro Ranch Park for returning riders. Bill Wilkinson said that he thought that would be a good idea. Betsy Turner said that Valley Metro's Great Bike Chase to a Diamondback's game was expected to attract 1,000 to 1,500 riders. It will be on April 29th and the riders will attend the game against the San Francisco Giants. Betsy also mentioned a bike ride on March 18th called The Ride Around the Tanks(White Tank Mountains). Also, as part of valley metro's Bike Month, Betsy said there would be a Bike Swap Meet on April 15th in conjunction with Tempe's T.I.M. Triathlon. VIII. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS No items were suggested. IX. OTHER BUSINESS There was no other business. X. NEXT MEETING Brian Kanitsch said the next regular meeting of the Glendale Citizen Bicycle Advisory Committee would be held on Monday, March 5, 2006, 6:30 p.m., Transportation Planning Conference Room, Bank of America Building, 5800 W. Glenn Dr., Suite 315. XI. ADJOURNMENT With no further business before the Committee,a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and unanimously approved.
