HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Citizens Bicycle Advisory Committee - Meeting Date: 4/2/2007 CITY OF GLENDALE CITIZEN BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (CBAC) Monday, April 2, 2007 Transportation Planning Conference Room Bank of America Building, Suite 315 5800 West Glenn Drive, Glendale,Arizona 6:30 PM MINUTES CALL TO ORDER Betsy Turner called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m. Also in attendance: Brad Meek, Rich Qualls,Jim Walker, Bill Wilkinson,Jeff Reid and City staff—Steve Hancock Members absent: Saif Al-Alawi,Gail Hildebrant Guests: None II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the March 5, 2007 meeting were approved with a correction that Bill Wilkinson had been in attendance at the February, 2007 meeting. III. CALL TO THE PUBLIC No guests addressed the Committee. IV. INTRODUCTIONS Members introduced themselves. V. CONTINUANCE OR WITHDRAWAL OF AGENDA ITEMS No agenda items required continuance or withdrawal VI. REPORTS FROM OTHER COMMITTEES AND ORGANIZATIONS Jeff Reid reported on the status of the Valley Metro Valley Bike Month activities. He said the month began with a bike rodeo in Chandler on March 20 and a bike ride in Peoria on March 31s`. He said that Tempe would be hosting an event on April 14`h that included a bike rodeo and the Bike Swap Meet. Betsy Turner said members should go to the Bike Expo in Tempe and that they would be giving away 100 helmets. Jeff Reid said the Bike Expo swap meet would have several bike shops displaying their goods. Jeff also mentioned the Great Bike Chase on April 29th that would have a short ride from Margaret Hance Park to Chase Field for a San Francisco Giants baseball game. Brad Meek asked where people could park their bikes at the ride. Betsy said there would be secure parking with police bike officers patrolling the area. Betsy then said that the Citizen Transportation Oversight Commission would not meet until April 5th so she had no report to give on the Commission activities. Citizen Bicycle Advisory Committee Minutes April 2,2007 —Page 2— VII. 2007 GLENDALE FAMILY BIKE RIDE Steve Hancock updated the Committee on preparations for the Glendale Family Bike Ride. He displayed one of the 2007 ride t-shirts, noting that they had been printed and delivered. He then handed out aerial maps of the Sahauro Ranch Park soccer field with a layout for the placement of tents, inflatable devices, and indications of where the disc jockey, steel band, registration tables, and GO Public Meeting would be set up. Steve stressed that CBAC volunteers needed to be familiar with the layout because he would not always be on site in the early stages of the ride. He asked for cell phone numbers so everyone could stay in touch while he was out setting up the rest stops and monitoring the ride. Steve said that everything was looking good for the ride with over 321 people already pre-registered. He anticipated over 500 people could show up for the ride if the weather was not too hot or wet. Bill Wilkinson asked Betsy Turner if she knew how many Glendale Family Bike Rides had occurred. Betsy said she wasn't sure but that they had been held as far back as when Susan Bookspan was the Glendale Bike Coordinator. VIII. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS Steve Hancock said that he had discussions with the Parks and Recreation Department about a joint meeting with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission. He said that it could happen at the meeting in May. IX. OTHER BUSINESS There was no other business. X. NEXT MEETING Betsy Turner said the next regular meeting of the Glendale Citizen Bicycle Advisory Committee would be held on Monday, May 7, 2007, 6:30 p.m., Transportation Planning Conference Room, Bank of America Building, 5800 W. Glenn Dr., Suite 315. XI. ADJOURNMENT With no further business before the Committee,a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and unanimously approved.
