CALL TO ORDER Michael Wood called the meeting to order at 6:37 p.m. Also in attendance: Brian Kanitsch, Jeff Reid, Betsy Turner, Bill Wilkinson, Keith Cyrnek and City staff— Steve Hancock Members absent: Ed Cure, Jim Hunton, Charles Grosscup Guests: None II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the February 7, 2005 meeting were approved. III. CALL TO THE PUBLIC No guests addressed the Committee. IV. INTRODUCTIONS Members and guests introduced themselves. V. CONTINUANCE OR WITHDRAWAL OF AGENDA ITEMS No agenda items required continuance or withdrawal VI. REPORTS FROM OTHER COMMITTEES AND ORGANIZATIONS • Bill Wilkinson said that the Citizens Transportation Oversight Committee (CTOC)has asked URS Corp. to report to the CBAC on bicycle and pedestrian projects in the GO program. Steve Hancock said that a representative of URS would be on the April 2005 agenda. • Jeff Reid reported on Valley Bike Week activities. He displayed a poster of a Diamondbacks player posing on a bicycle wearing a helmet. He also had information on the Bike-to-Bob ride,the Bike Swap Meet, and other events occurring during the week. Michael Wood asked Jeff how many people go to the Bike-to-Bob ride. Jeff said that 1,500 rode in the 2004 ride and that they expected 1,800 this year. Citizen Bicycle Advisory Committee Minutes March 7,2005 —Page 2— VII. 2005 GLENDALE FAMILY BIKE RIDE Steve Hancock said that planning for the ride was going well. He said that registration flyers had been printed and that he had copies for Committee members to distribute if they chose to. Steve handed out a list of bicycle shops in Glendale and asked if any members could take flyers to some of the shops. A number of members volunteered to take flyers to bike shops in their part of the City. Betsy Turner said she would deliver flyers to the bike Den, Bikers Edge, Cycle Spectrum, Gordy's and Southwest Bicycles. Bill Wilkinson said he would deliver flyers to Bike Sport, the Main Library and the Senior Center. Jeff Reid said he would deliver flyers to Build-a-Bike. Steve gave the volunteers packets of flyers and posters to be displayed in shop windows. Steve asked if any members would be available to help out on the bike ride. All members present said they would volunteer for the ride. Steve told them volunteers were needed at Sahuaro Ranch Park for registration, helmet sales, t-shirt sales,and set-up. He said volunteers would need to be at the park at 5:00 a.m. on April 17th to get set-up by the start of registration at 7:00 a.m. Steve said volunteers were also needed at the third rest stop at 47th Ave. at the Arizona Canal. Michael Wood said he could be at the third rest stop. When asked by Steve, Michael said that last year they had more snacks and water than they needed and that the port-john was used by a number of the riders. Steve said that he was having trouble finding a vendor for shaved ice. He thought this problem was due to the relative size of our event, i.e., not enough potential customers. Steve asked if any of last year's volunteers recalled the name of the shaved ice vendor at the ride. Betsy Turner said she might have the name on file at her office. VIII. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS Steve repeated that URS would be giving an update on bike and ped projects in the GO program. The Glendale Family Bike Ride was also on the April agenda. IX. OTHER BUSINESS Brian Kanitsch said there is a dangerous curb on a pathway leading from the Thunderbird Paseo to an area behind the hospital near Eugie and 59th Ave. Steve said he would take a look and see if anything can be done to address the problem. X. NEXT MEETING Michael Wood said the next regular meeting of the Glendale Citizen Bicycle Advisory Committee would be held on Monday, April 2, 2005, 6:30 p.m., Room B-2, at the Municipal Complex, 5850 West Glendale Avenue. XI. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business before the Committee, a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and unanimously approved.
