2010 VIA COLORI EVENT
Mr. Gibran Villalobos, Gallery/Collections Coordinator, presented information on the Via Colori
Street painting Festival and Art Show. Each artist created their own piece of artwork on an
assigned space with colored chalk. The event took place in Murphy Park on March 6th and 7th
2010. The event was a success even though it rained out on the second day. Mr. Curtis
Goldstein, artist, was the special guest on hand at the event.
Mr. Villalobos presented pictures of Mr. Goldstein's art design. He explained that by using only
colored chalk, Mr. Goldstein had created an exceptional piece of art drawing on a 6x12 large
canvas. The drawing is sprayed with an adhesive, which preserves the chalk and allows it to
settle on the canvas. The piece can be viewed along with the winners of the 2010 Glendale
Centennial Plein Air Painting Event. Currently, the pieces are on display at the Promenade at
Palmaire Center adjacent to the downtown office building located at 58th and Palmaire Avenues.
Commissioner Spear stated this was one of the nicest pieces of artwork the city has had the
opportunity to own. Everyone agreed.
The Commission discussed the best locations for this art piece. All agreed that the Glendale City
Council Chambers would be an ideal location for the artwork.
Ms. Sue Komernicky, Library and Arts Director, stated everyone was pleased with the success of
this event despite the rain on the second day of the event. She suggested adding a children's
component next year.
Chairperson Criswell commented that next year's event might be even bigger now that they
know what to expect and had received valuable feedback. Mr. Villalobos agreed.
Chairperson Criswell asked for a motion on this item.
A MOTION was MADE by Commission member Spear to APPROVE to display the
