I. Call to Order
Chairperson Philip Reina called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m.
II. Roll Call
Ill. Approval of Minutes, September 28, 2009 Meeting
A motion was made by Chairperson Philip Reina, and seconded by Vice-Chairperson Thomas
Castaldo, to approve the September 28, 2009, minutes. The motion carried unanimously.
IV. Business From the Floor
None.
V. 2010 Census
Staff member Matthew Cohrs, Neighborhood Partnership Administrator, outlined the reasons why the
2010 Census is so important to the city, and explained what the City of Glendale is doing to reach out
to our residents to get them to participate. No action taken.
VI. Fiscal Year First Quarter Crime Report
Officer Anthony Haney provided the Commission with the first quarter crime statistics for the current
fiscal year for the three public housing complexes. He explained to the commission there is a
neighborhood response squad provided by the police department. No action taken.
VII. Modernization of Lamar Homes
Staff member Elaine Adamczyk provided an update of recent improvements made to the Lamar Homes
housing complex with federal stimulus funds, and the additional changes that will be made in the near
future with $135,000 in Community Development Block Grant Recovery funds. Also, staff briefed the
commission on three units at Lamar Homes which caught fire on October 17, 2009. Glendale Housing
will be rehabilitating the units and will solicit ideas from the commission on some "green" renovations
for the rehabilitation process. No action taken.
VIII. Update on Strategic Housing Study
Staff member Erik Strunk presented this item. In 2007, the Community Revitalization Division
commissioned the BBC Research & Consulting Group of Denver to examine how easily Glendale's
workforce and residents can buy, rent, and maintain a home in the city. Mr. Strunk reviewed key
findings of the 2007 study and how it has been utilized in the last two years. No action taken.
IX. Open Meeting Law Booklet
State statute requires that all boards and commission members (public bodies) be given materials
approved by the state's attorney general regarding the open meeting law. The Commission was
provided with open meeting law booklets. No action taken.
X. Staff Productivity Report
Staff member Elaine Adamczyk provided a first quarter comparison of key activities for last fiscal year
and the current fiscal year. This included updates on the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing
program, the number of clients assisted, and other department activities. No action taken.
XI. Commissioner Comments and Suggestions
None
XII. Adiournment
A motion was made by Commissioner Michael Buettner, and seconded by Vice-Chairperson Thomas
Castaldo, to adjourn. The motion carried unanimously, and the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
