Meeting Minutes
November 17, 2009
6:30p.m.

Raymond Yaeggi, excused Rich Ray, Chairperson, excused
Staff Present: Sylvia Charters, Human Resources, and Diana Figueroa,
Recording Secretary
1. Call to Order and Welcome
The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:33pm. A quorum was
present.
2. Approval of Minutes from October 20, 2009.Meeting Minutes
Chairperson Shaaban called for a Motion.
Commissioner Muth made a motion to approve the minutes as written.
Commissioner Galvez seconded the motion. The motion passed
unanimously.
3. New Business
Chairperson Shaaban called for New Business.
He introduced Commissioner Linda Yaeger representing the Cholla District.
Commissioner Yaeger provided information regarding her background.
Each Commissioner introduced themselves and also provided information about
themselves. The Commission welcomed Ms. Yaeger.
Commissioner Kulp shared an article included in the ABIL Newsletter dated
September 2009 related to gasoline stations and the willingness to assist the
disabled community. Ms. Charters said she would distribute the information to
the Commission.

Chairperson Shaaban said information was given to each Commissioner provided
by the City of Glendale Community Revitalization Division. It's a listing of
social services funded with Community Development Block Grant Fiscal Year
2009-2010.
Ms. Charters distributed information regarding the Open Meeting Law to each
Commissioner. The City Clerk's Office is requiring this information be handed to
each board and commission member for each of the City of Glendale's boards and
commissions.
4. Old Business
Chairperson Shaaban provided a refresher on the information previously given to
Chairperson Ray related to the online survey.
Chairperson Shaaban asked if the Commission had any suggestions as to how to
improve or revise the survey. He reviewed the length of time it has been available
to the public and the number of responses received.
After a brief discussion, the Commission agreed to review the online survey and
also to make modifications to the survey, feeling that this would make those that
visit the site aware the Commission does update the survey. Also, giving the
survey a new look may help to encourage the visitors to continue to provide
valuable input.
Chairperson Shaaban asked the Commission to return to next month's meeting
with their suggested improvements.
5. Brainstormena Session -
Commission advisory role — Chairperson Shaaban read into the record the role of
the Commission noting they are an advisory group to provide guidance and
information to the City Council.
The Commission discussed several issues where they have acted on their advisory
role and provided different city departments, as well as residents, information and
brought up a variety of concerns.
Chairperson Shaaban reminded the members that they are the voice for the
disabled community.
Commissioner Kulp said that she attended a district meeting recently and
distributed information related to disabled. She suggested the Commission set up
a table at upcoming city events such as district meetings or special events where
they could have volunteers man the tables and reach out to the community.

The Commission agreed this would be a great opportunity.
Community opportunities— Chairperson Shaaban asked each member to research
other jurisdictions' websites as they relate to the disabled community. He asked
the Commission to return with researched information next meeting.
Chairperson Shaaban asked that each Commissioner find out when their district
meetings are held and they are encouraged to attend these meetings. Each
Commissioner should return to the Commission meetings with information or
concerns given to them from the disabled community.
The Commission discussed what opportunities are available in the way of
meetings where each member could reach out to the community.
Chairperson Shaaban stated that Commissioner Bohall wanted to remind
everyone that the special needs children would be performing on November 19,
2009, at 7pm at the Glendale Adult Center.
Commissioner Kulp thanked Chairperson Shaaban for a nicely chaired meeting.
6. Next meeting—December 15, 2009
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:18p.m.
