HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - City Council - Meeting Date: 9/16/2008 MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GLENDALE, MARICOPA COUNTY, ARIZONA, HELD TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2008 AT 1:00 P.M. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Elaine M. Scruggs, with Vice Mayor Manuel D. Martinez, and the following Councilmembers present: Joyce V. Clark, Steven E. Frate, David M. Goulet, Yvonne J. Knaack, and H. Philip Lieberman. Also present were Ed Beasley, City Manager; Pam Kavanaugh, Assistant City Manager; Craig Tindall, City Attorney; and Pamela Hanna, City Clerk. COMPLIANCE WITH ARTICLE VII, SECTION 6(c) OF THE GLENDALE CHARTER A statement was filed by the City Clerk that the one resolution to be considered at the meeting was available for public examination and the title posted at City Hall more than 72 hours in advance of the meeting. CONSENT RESOLUTIONS Ms. Pamela Hanna, City Clerk, read consent resolution agenda number 1 by number and title. 1. CANVASS OF VOTES FOR THE SEPTEMBER 2, 2008 PRIMARY This is a request for City Council to adopt a resolution accepting the canvass of votes from the September 2, 2008 Primary Election. A.R.S. 16-642 requires that "the governing body holding an election shall canvass the election no less than six days nor more than 20 days following the election". The September 2, 2008 Primary election allows voters to decide the Office of Mayor and Cactus, Sahuaro and Yucca City Council Offices as well as one ballot question, Proposition 404. The September 2, 2008 Primary Election was called by the City Council on April 22, 2008, Resolution 4145 New Series and the Notice of Election, Resolution 4171 New Series, was approved on June 24, 2008. The recommendation was to waive reading beyond the title and adopt the Canvass of Votes Resolution for the September 2, 2008 Primary Election. 1 Resolution No. 4191 New Series was read by number and title only, it being A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GLENDALE, MARICOPA COUNTY, ARIZONA, DECLARING AND ADOPTING THE RESULTS OF THE PRIMARY ELECTION HELD ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2008; AND ORDERING THAT A CERTIFIED COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION BE RECORDED. It was moved by Clark, and seconded by Lieberman, to pass, adopt and approve Resolution No. 4191 New Series. The motion carried unanimously.
