HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Government Services Committee - Meeting Date: 4/5/2011Government Services Committee Tuesday, April 5, 2011 Regular Meeting Minutes Council Conference Room 5850 West Glendale Avenue Glendale, AZ Councilmember Joyce Clark called the meeting to order at 9:37 a.m. Present were Councilmember Manny Martinez, Councilmember Phil Lieberman and Councilmember Joyce Clark. Also in attendance were Kristen Krey, Nan Robinson, and Kriss Carneal. 1 — Approval of Minutes: Councilmember Martinez made a motion to approve the minutes from the March 1, 2011 GSC meeting. Councilmember Lieberman seconded the motion. Motion approved. 2 — Resignations: Edgar Hernandez (Yucca) from the Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission. 3 — Boards & Commissions Basic Training Class: Councilmember Clark advised there was a good turn out for the class. Councilmember Clark read off the evaluation results, which were very positive. One person commented about the power point being outdated. Kristen advised that she is working on updating the power point. 4 — Follow up meeting w/Citizens Advisory Commission on Neighborhoods-CM Clark: Councilmember Clark provided the history of this commission to the members. CM Clark asked the commissioners if they thought the small grants program was beneficial, per Councilmember Martinez's request, and they advised that it was. The commission would like to use the small grants program to get more neighborhoods active. Councilmember Martinez asked Kristen if any of the councilmembers have volunteered to give any of their Capital Improvement Project (CIP) money towards the small grants program. Kristen advised she had not received confirmation from councilmembers. CM Martinez indicated he would donate$15,000 in FY 2011-2012. 5 — Serving on Multiple Boards: Councilmember Clark advised that Mayor Scruggs would like to nominate an individual to a second board. Kristen advised that during the November 3, 2009 GSC meeting it was discussed to allow only MPC and PFC commissioners to serve on two boards, since they meet annually. The other boards and commissions meet monthly or 3-4 times a year. Councilmember Clark moved that the GSC reaffirm the previous policy which is only allowing MPC and PFC to serve on two boards/commissions. Councilmember Lieberman made a motion to accept the previous policy as listed. Councilmember Martinez seconded the motion. All approved the motion. 6—Next GSC Meeting: May 3, 2011. 7—Request for Motion to Adjourn and conduct an Executive Session: 1 At 9:53 a.m. Councilmember Lieberman made a motion to adjourn to conduct the Executive Session.
