Regular Meeting Minutes
Council Conference Room
5850 West Glendale Avenue
Glendale, AZ
Councilmember Joyce Clark called the meeting to order at 9:38 a.m. Present were
Councilmember Manny Martinez and Councilmember Joyce Clark. Also in attendance
were Kristen Krey and Kriss Carneal.
1 — Approval of Minutes: Councilmember Martinez made a motion to approve the
minutes from the September 7, 2010. Councilmember Clark seconded the motion.
Motion approved.
2 — Resignations: Kriss was informed by Becky Benna that Jose Rivas resigned in
March from the Parks & Recreation Commission. Frank Hinds submitted a resignation
letter for the Citizens Advisory Commission on Neighborhoods on 9-3-10 and then
withdrew his resignation on 9-25-10.
3 — Basic Training Class Results: Kristen advised that there were 27 appointed and
pending attendees at the basic training class on 9-29-10. Councilmember Clark did the
introduction. One comment on the evaluation was to shorten the class. Kristen will revise
the training and try to shorten the class to 2 hours.
4 — Recruitment Video B&C: Kristen advised that Cindy Nossek is working with
Laurie Sapp in making a recruitment video to air on Glendale 24/7 and Glendale Beat.
5 — Purged Applications: Kristen advised that majority of the older applicants either
updated their application or were appointed. Only 17 applications out of 42 were purged,
due to either moving out of the city or not responding to the letter that was sent out in
February 2010. There is now a viable list of candidates.
6—Technology GSC/B&C: Kristen advised working on placing all GSC items, such as
pending applications, attendance records, membership tables and pending list onto the
intranet for Mayor and Council to view. There will also be an "event" calendar which
will have all meetings, event, etc. listed, as well as a document file for items that were
sent to full Council. This should be completed in November.
7—Discuss "Initial Term" Definition: Historically, someone could serve 6-18 months
as their initial term. The 6 month rule allows continual diversity to the boards by allowing
individuals to serve no more than 4 years and 6 months.
8—Next GSC Meeting: November 16, 2010
9—Other Business: Will remove this item, due to no citizen comments at this meeting.
