HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Government Services Committee - Meeting Date: 10/5/2010Government Services Committee Tuesday, October 5, 2010 Regular Meeting Minutes Council Conference Room 5850 West Glendale Avenue Glendale, AZ Councilmember Joyce Clark called the meeting to order at 9:38 a.m. Present were Councilmember Manny Martinez and Councilmember Joyce Clark. Also in attendance were Kristen Krey and Kriss Carneal. 1 — Approval of Minutes: Councilmember Martinez made a motion to approve the minutes from the September 7, 2010. Councilmember Clark seconded the motion. Motion approved. 2 — Resignations: Kriss was informed by Becky Benna that Jose Rivas resigned in March from the Parks & Recreation Commission. Frank Hinds submitted a resignation letter for the Citizens Advisory Commission on Neighborhoods on 9-3-10 and then withdrew his resignation on 9-25-10. 3 — Basic Training Class Results: Kristen advised that there were 27 appointed and pending attendees at the basic training class on 9-29-10. Councilmember Clark did the introduction. One comment on the evaluation was to shorten the class. Kristen will revise the training and try to shorten the class to 2 hours. 4 — Recruitment Video B&C: Kristen advised that Cindy Nossek is working with Laurie Sapp in making a recruitment video to air on Glendale 24/7 and Glendale Beat. 5 — Purged Applications: Kristen advised that majority of the older applicants either updated their application or were appointed. Only 17 applications out of 42 were purged, due to either moving out of the city or not responding to the letter that was sent out in February 2010. There is now a viable list of candidates. 6—Technology GSC/B&C: Kristen advised working on placing all GSC items, such as pending applications, attendance records, membership tables and pending list onto the intranet for Mayor and Council to view. There will also be an "event" calendar which will have all meetings, event, etc. listed, as well as a document file for items that were sent to full Council. This should be completed in November. 7—Discuss "Initial Term" Definition: Historically, someone could serve 6-18 months as their initial term. The 6 month rule allows continual diversity to the boards by allowing individuals to serve no more than 4 years and 6 months. 8—Next GSC Meeting: November 16, 2010 9—Other Business: Will remove this item, due to no citizen comments at this meeting. 10—Request for Motion to Adjourn and conduct an Executive Session: 1 At 10:20 a.m. Councilmember Martinez made a motion to adjourn to conduct the Executive Session.
