HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Housing Advisory Commission - Meeting Date: 3/26/2001 I MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE HOUSING ADVISORY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF GLENDALE, MARICOPA COUNTY, ARIZONA HELD MONDAY, MARCH 26, 2001 AT 5:30 P.M. Call To Order The meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m. by Chairperson Arnold. Present were Commissioners Vacca, Maynes, Benavides, and Swedlund. There was a quorum. Reading of the Minutes Motion by Maynes, seconded by Swedlund, to dispense with and approve the reading of the minutes since each commissioner had received a copy before the meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Presentation from the Floor None New Business Utility Allowance HUD requires the Community Housing Services Division (CHSD) to review the Public Housing and Section 8 utility allowances on a yearly basis. If there is an increase of 10% or more, the allowances must be adjusted accordingly. As determined by the utilities review, both the Section 8 and Public Housing allowance for gas increased 10%. The electricity allowance for Public Housing increased according to the average consumption per unit size. No action was required. Updated Agency Plan A major area of change in the Agency Plan for Fiscal Year 2001 was summarized. A new program for Public Housing residents, Community Service, will be effective July 1', 2001. It requires all adult household members not currently disabled or the caretaker of a disabled person, not 62 years or older, not currently working, or who are exempt from work activity, to perform eight hours of community service, eight hours of economic self-sufficiency, or eight hours in combined service. The CHSD will notify all residents of their status and of their program responsibilities in the coming months. The plan is no longer required to go before Mayor and Council as delegation of authority has been granted to the City Manager for approval of any revised plans. No action was required. HOUSING ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES March 26, 2001 Page Two Introduction to Housing Staff provided a presentation on the Housing programs to acquaint the new commissioners with the programs. Quarterly Crime Statistics The Crime Statistics for the year 2000 were reviewed and compared to the statistics for 1999. Office Michelle Blanco was present to answer any questions.
