HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Housing Advisory Commission - Meeting Date: 9/28/1998 r p, MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE HOUSING ADVISORY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF GLENDALE, MARICOPA COUNTY, ARIZONA HELD _ - MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 1998 AT 5:30 P.M. Call To Order The meeting was called to order at 5:34 p.m. by Chairperson Hunter-Ojala. Present were Commissioners Houck, Hunter-Ojala, Saiz, Haran, and Sharpe. There was a quorum. Reading of the Minutes Motion by Haran, seconded by Sharpe, to dispense with and approve the reading of the minutes since each commissioner had received a copy before the meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Presentation from the Floor Tom Doescher, Senior Housing Specialist, was introduced to the Commission. 7 Select a Vice-Chairperson A motion was made by Houck and seconded by Haran to appoint David Saiz as the new Vice- Chairperson. Motion carried unanimously. Fence At Lamar Homes Property At the request of the Commission, information was presented regarding the possibility of erecting a fence between the Lamar Homes property and the City park adjacent to that property. After a brief discussion and with the knowledge that the Tenant Advisory Committee unanimously agreed that fencing would be detrimental to the residents and would not be appropriate, Commissioner Sharpe made a recommendation to accept the request of the Tenant Advisory Committee to withdraw their request for a fence. Motion was seconded by Houck and carried unanimously. Speed Humps At Lamar Homes And Glendale Homes At the request of the Commission, staff canvassed residents to see if there was any interest in speed humps at Lamar Homes and Glendale Homes. Due to an apparent lack of interest/support, the Tenant Advisory Committee officially withdrew their request for speed humps. After a brief discussion, Commissioner Haran felt there might still be a need to determine if cars are speeding through the properties and suggested that staff contact the Traffic Engineer to request a study of the traffic through the properties to determine if there is r a problem. Recommendations from staff will be presented at the next regularly scheduled , meeting. (psnet\word\hsgadvisUninutes\hac0998.doc) HOUSING ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES 1 September 28, 1998 Page 2 Block Watch Program Tom Doescher presented information to the Commission on the establishment of a Block Watch Program at each of the rental communities. The Police Department is working'with Housing staff and residents to get the necessary training, signs, pamphlets, and support for this endeavor by the first of next year. After a brief discussion, the Commission suggested that people directly involved in this program be given recognition from Housing staff, as well as through the Police Department. Quarterly Crime Statistics The Commissioners were very impressed with the declining number of calls for police service to the rental properties. Commissioner Sharpe suggested that the Housing staff should receive recognition for their accomplishments. Staff will research this and report the findings at the next regularly scheduled meeting. Expenditure Report �. The expenditure and revenue report covered all program expenses from July 1, 1997 through June 30, 1998. No action was required. Monthly Activity Report , The Monthly Activity Report was presented to the Commission for their information. No action -, was required.
