HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Housing Advisory Commission - Meeting Date: 6/27/1994 MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE ; (Th HOUSING ADVISORY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF GLENDALE, MARICOPA COUNTY, ARIZONA HELD MONDAY, JUNE 27, 1994 AT 5:30 P.M. Call To Order The meeting was called to order at 5:30 P.M. by Vice-Chairperson Helka. Present were Commissioners Hurley, Pine, and Tomlin. Chairperson Horton was absent. A quorum was present. Reading of the Minutes Motion by Hurley, seconded by Pine, that reading of the minutes be dispensed with since each commissioner had received a copy before the meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Introduction Director Hamilton introduced Jerry Swanson, the Deputy City Manager for the Community Services Department, which includes Housing Services. Mr. Swanson expressed his pleasure in being at the meeting and said he was looking forward to the opportunity to learn new things. Presentation of Quilt of Neighborhoods Award 1. The Quilt of Neighborhood Awards are presented to neighborhoods in recognition of residents' efforts in revitalizing the neighborhood environment. Paul Ludwick, Director of Neighborhood Resources, presented the awards given to each of the three public housing developments. The signs will be mounted in each development. A quilt which hangs in the City Hall lobby has been sewn incorporating representation of each of the awards present to the City Council so far, and will be added to as awards are earned and presented. Commissioners said they were excited about the program and pleased with the results. Commission Appreciation Director Hamilton expressed to the Commission the appreciation of the staff for their time and assistance and presented . a personalized mug to each of them. She also displayed a plaque for Commissioner Hurley who is leaving this board. Formal presentation of the plaque will be made by the Mayor at a meeting of the City Council. Commissioner Hurley said he has enjoyed serving on the board and working with the housing staff. Fiscal Year 1994/95 Proposed Budget For Assisted Housing Programs Commissioners requested a short recess to review the proposed budget. Meeting reconvened at 7:00 P.M. (SRcrARY/HSoADVIS.COM/HAC694.MTG) Commissioners asked for clarification of the Section 8 project reserves. Staff explained that this amount is determined by the T , Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and not under housing staff control. The account can be used only for making housing assistance payments. Commissioners also asked that staff review the bids for the fax machine to ensure that the price is fair. Following further discussion, the commissioners approved the budget. Staff informed the Commission that they will be advised of any changes made to the budget subsequent to their approval. CIAP Application Staff presented the application for 1994 Comprehensive Improvement Assistance Program funds in the amount of $730,980, to include improvements at each of the three public housing developments. Motion by Horton, seconded by Tomlin, that the application be approved as submitted. Motion carried unanimously.
