HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Housing Advisory Commission - Meeting Date: 3/23/1992 is MINUTES MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE HOUSING ADVISORY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF GLENDALE COMMUNITY HOUSING SERVICES DEPARTMENT HELD ON MARCH 23 , 1992 . Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6: 30 p.m. by Chairman Helminski. Present were Commissioners Flatau, Horton, and Koehler. A quorum was present. Reading of the Minutes Motion by Horton, seconded by Flatau, that the reading of the minutes of the meeting of February 24 be dispensed with since each member of the Commission was provided with copies before the meeting. Approval of Budget for FY 1992-93 Community Housing Services Department budget was presented for the review of the Commissioners. Motion by Flatau, seconded by Horton, that the budget be forwarded to the Mayor and Council with a recommendation of approval. Motion carried unanimously. Change Order #4 with Gilliland Corporation Change Order #4 to the contract, with Gilliland Corporation, for modernization of public housing units provides for deletion of two items resulting in a reduction of $852 . 00 in the contract price. The entrance door to the maintenance shop at AZ 3-1 will not be replaced, and no asbestos abatement of stair coverings at Cholla Vista is required. Motion by Horton, seconded by Flatau, that Change Order #4 to the contract with the Gilliland Corporation be approved. Motion carried unanimously. Presentation On: Public Housing Drug Elimination Program Corporal Frank Balkcom, Glendale Police Department, presented information regarding the Public Housing Drug Elimination Program. Criminal activity decreased in all areas except liquor violations after the inception of the program in January 1991. Liquor violations have also decreased recently. Two officers now provide seven-day coverage. Chairman Helminski said the officers and team are to be applauded for their efforts in controlling criminal activity in the public housing projects. 1 / Proposed Change of Commission Meeting Time Motion by Horton, seconded by Flatau, that the regular meetings of the Housing Advisory Commission be changed to 5 : 30 P.M. on the fourth Monday of the month. Motion carried unanimously. • Comments and Suggestions Director Hamilton gave information to the Commission regarding the lay off of City employees. Transit will become a division in the Housing Department under Ms. Hamilton's direction. They will remain in their own facility and continue with the same advisory commission.
